Home Not So Sweet Home

We were finally able to move in to our newly renovated house during the Holy Week. Although everything wasn’t ready, we had to move in since my mom thought it was a better idea than waiting for everything to finish. I didn’t mind because I myself couldn’t wait to move into my strikingly pink room.

So now, everything’s almost done. We just need a few more home furnishings and a few bathroom vanities and it’ll be home sweet home. The house is still kinda bare since we haven’t unpacked everything and most of the important home stuff is still missing to (e.g. wall clock, phone table, etc).

Hopefully by next week, everything would be done so life would get back to normal again.

Outer Banks Rentals

A week ago, my aunt asked me to search the net for Outer Banks rentals since they were scheduled for an instant trip to North Carolina and therefore, had not made plans prior to last week. No, I’m not going with them, I was just the person who was online most of the time so she figured I’d have time to book them for a place to rent for 3 weeks. Fortunately, I found a vacation rental site especially for Outer Banks. Now that made my work a lot easier. It was quite a breeze finding a place in Kitty Hawk with my aunt’s specifications, and the prices were very appropriate as well. Carolina Designs are truly heaven sent, such a life saver!

Summer Diet

It’s summer once again and it’s time to head to the beach and flaunt the string bikinis. However, due to the recent holiday binge and a few dinner parties here and there, some of us might not be too excited about string bikinis. I’m talking about flabs and baby fats.

I’ve been hearing people go into crash diets and hitting the gym ever so often that it becomes their second home while others rely on diet pills for easier and faster solution. Anything to get rid of those holiday fats. I myself need to do a few crunches to get rid of my not so baby fats. A close friend has started taking diet pills and I’m slowly seeing the effect which is actually tempting. But I think a few crunches will do for me at the moment. Besides, I have a month to go before the beach trip so I still have time to kill myself with crunches. And cut down some stuff on my diet. Wish me luck.

On Acne, Photography and Gadgets...

A few days ago, I had coffee with two of my former school mates who were in town for a visit. It was nice catching up with them and what’s been keeping them busy despite our unemployed status. True enough, we’ve all been occupied with different stuff totally unrelated to our nursing careers. I’ve been into this online buy and sell, one was into the call center biz, and one was busy with some media work. See? Totally unrelated to nursing. We’ve also been bashing on how our bank accounts continue to deplete despite the fact that we’re not supposed to be spending much since we practically have no “right” coz we’re unemployed. Lol. But anyway, one’s been spending on photography supplies, which isn’t really cheap and one’s been spending much for her acne treatment (that's been getting worse lately) which also doesn’t come cheap. I on the other hand is spending much on gadget upgrades which unlike theirs, has totally no good benefit except my personal satisfaction.

Anyway, the other day was quite fun. I wish more friends came over to visit the city. I miss hanging out with people. Lozah.

Bridal Shower Gift

A friend of mine got invited to a shower party for her friend’s wedding and being the anti-social that she is, she has no idea what to bring a gift. For some reason, she has no choice but to attend the wedding and so begins her dilemma. I myself haven’t attended a shower party since most of my friends haven’t decided to marry and the only shower party that I was supposed to attend was 2 years ago and I didn’t go due to school responsibilities. Anyway, I told her most people get the bride lingerie. I don’t know why but that’s just from what I’ve heard. So she’s gonna go with that. Tomorrow’s gonna be lingerie shopping for her, I guess.

Still stressed and still blogging

Yes, I am gazillion times more stressed than yesterday. We've been cleaning the entire house all day and my body is super aching. But nothing beats the keyboard and monitor to relax me. Yes I'm weird. Yes I'm such an internet addict. To each his own, and this is MY own de-stressor. So since I've done my daily ritual of online accounts checking, i'm gonna doze off now. Tatah! Loooooonger day tomorrow!

Mortgages

A lot of the young couples in the society often turn to mortgages in order to jumpstart their new family since most of the people in this group are not able to afford a house and lot early on. Among the many types of mortgage, the fixed-rate mortgage is one of the most popular according to the news. Employed, newly weds would usually prefer this since the rates remain stable althroughout the payment period. This way, people can clearly include the mortgage payment in their monthly budget since it would be the same amount every month. People find it safer since there is less risk of overspending and it also enables people to allocate their budget more appropriately.

Streeeeeesssed yet Blogging

We've started packing to move back to our house. They've started cleaning up the new house because obviously, we couldn't start moving stuff unless the house is cleam. It would be too much trouble moving bakc stuff in a dirty house. Anyway, it's been really stressful and I have a feeling, no, I actually know, that the next days will be soooooo much more stressful. SO much for the long weekend. :/

Boosty Boots

I’ve been thinking that when I leave for NZ, I’d probably need to bring more closed shoes than flipflops as what I’ve been used to wearing here. When the cold season arrives, flipflops wouldn’t be able to save my feet from frostbite so I need to start stocking up on closed shoes. And since I’m such a fan of boots, I’d probably buy more boots of all heights and designs that just ordinary closed shoes. I’m already eyeing a pair of black knee high boots from Naot and since they’re not within my budget right now, I really have to use all my might to keep myself from spending too much so that I would be able to afford that pair! Hehe. Wish me luck!

Help Him

Remember that ‘friend’ I mentioned in one of my recent posts who’s currently addicted to drugs and that even though he was made to stay in another place, still continued with his vices? Well, he got worse and is still getting worse by the day. His dad is actually very disappointed and lately, I’m glad that more people are voicing out that he should be admitted to a rehab. So lately, his mom’s been looking into prospective drug rehabs that will surely address his problems. I just hope this solution would work for him because if it doesn’t, I don’t know what else will 

It’s gadget talk time brought to you by ExpoTV. And today, we shall talk about one of my favorite toys, the digital camera. It’s one of the most popular and most purchased gadget nowadays. More people seem to realize (finally!) that digicams are great companions to every event. Nobody wants to miss a funny or memorable moment.

I personally own a Sony digicam just because I believe Sony Digital Cameras are more durable (it’s Sony after all) and easier to get repaired if ever it gets broken (since Sony shops are everywhere). The picture quality is definitely not disappointing. The picture come out very well, almost like the real thing. I used to own a Canon Digital camera and while it produced awesome pictures, I just wasn’t such a big fan of the bulky unit. But that was also my fault that I bought that S50 instead of their sleek tiny models. I have no complaints regarding the quality of Canon digicams. Great photos and great add-on features. A friend of mine used (and maybe she still does) to own an Olympus digital camera. I must say that these creatures are one of the toughest out there. I mean, they’re no shock proof but that camera sure went through hard times, times which a camera shouldn’t have gone through. But the last time I checked, the camera was still alive and yes, still producing great photos. She is a talented photographer by the way, so I trust her taste in cameras. Before I purchased my Sony unit, I was supposed to buy a Panasonic digital camera since my mom advised that Lumix was of great quality and eventhough they weren’t as popular as Sony digicams (atleast not from where I live), they were one of the best out there. And recently, I tried a friend’s Lumix and I must say I wouldn’t have regretted if I bought a Lumix instead of a Sony. BUT, when I was ready to purchase the Lumix, the seller told me it already got sold. So it’s still not my fault. LOL.

Last but not the least, we have Nikon Digital Cameras. Now this is a luxury brand for me. I’m actually saving up for their digital SLRs. My dream gadget. They produce the best photos imaginable. The digital cameras aren’t bad as well. Their Coolpix line is very famous among my friends. A lot of them are really great photographers and I must say the credits go to their Nikon cameras. They have the best results under low light among all the cameras we’ve tested. Really great gadget buy.

Summer Exhibit

It’s summer once again and it’s time to let loose from school and work. A few days ago, a friend asked me what we should do this summer. She wanted to do something productive yet fun at the same time. And because we’re desperate and in need of serious cash, we decided to join bazaars. Besides, it’s the closest thing to trade shows hehe.

So we we’re planning on how our booth would look like, what decors to use and how to set up all our stuff. And since this is our first time, we still haven’t got the right supplies for our displays. So off we went to the net to see if we could find cheap yet elegant displays, and yes we did! We found a site that caters to trade show booths and they have everything we need. First and foremost, we do need banner stands for our store banner and other posters. It’s all I the visual editing babeh! And while looking through their site, I found really cool supplies that will surely make any booth stand out, from light boxes, sign holders, table skirts and table covers, you name it, they have it! I even found a nice pipe and drape for my cousin’s exhibit next month. Will definitely show this to her!

So this is it, wish us newbies luck!

Gossip Blog

Because I’ve had nothing much important stuff to do lately, I’ve been bumming around online and pretty much stuck in Brian’s blog and revalations about Manila’s ‘supposed’ high society. At first it was surprising to hear that these “icons” are actually drug users, but then again, what you see is not what you get. His latest entry has been the most shocking, god, these people should be dragged (not drugged haha) to the nearest drug rehabilitation ASAP. Ugh, so much for this fashionistas!

Green is Clean

Each and everyone of us has a responsibility to help care for our environment. And although most of us are willing to do something, we sometimes just don’t know what to do to make an impact. Well, we don’t have to do anything big or drastic, we could start within ourselves, change little things in our lifestyle and eventually change the world.

Just like this company who makes green products out of recycled materials and non-harmful products. From furniture, to gadgets, to home decors, they have a wide array of products that are eco friendly. Another thing that’s good about them is that the company alos supports charities and different organizations regarding the environment. The company also “walks their talk” by using eco friendly materials in their shops. What better way to encourage people to care for the environment by setting an example yourself. It just shows how true and dedicated they are to their cause. They can even supply large establishments such as shopping malls with earth friendly materials such as solar powered electronics, eco friendly furniture, energy saving appliances and more.

If more people would help support their cause, then it’s no wonder that the world would change for the better.

Wine Tasting

My mom loves to try out different kinds of wine and liquor. Don’t get us wrong, we’re no alcoholics, we just want to try different things. She likes to buy different types of drinks depending on the taste and smell. But sometimes, she also like to try new drinks just because the bottle looks nice. There came a point in our house where we probably needed wine racks to store all those bottles!

One for All Switch

Technology is becoming more and more advanced each day. And homes aren’t getting less advanced, too. In the world today, most homes don’t only have one unit of computer in the household. Some have two, three, four, or depending on how many children there are. Sometimes, it’s kind of hard to control all these computers individually, that is why there is such a thing called KVM switch which allows you to control multiple computers in one KVM unit. This is especially useful for large homes with numerous computer users. Thank God for techie inventors!

Freebies Anyone?

Opening up a business nowadays is not as easy like it was before. Everyone is more competitive and everyone has their own new gimmick to attract more customers. One thing I noticed what people responded to the most is when companies give our promotional products not only during the introductory stages but also during new product launches. People like receiving freebies so in order to attract more people into noticing your products, you might as well give people what they want, freebies. And with so many choices around, it’s not hard to search for the perfect giveaways that will surely make people come back

A Try at Golf

I’m not really into golf but my friends recently got into a conversation about playing Golf. Since her dad was fond of the sport but left for the States a few years ago, she had all his golf gears all to herself and what does she do? She tried golf. Yep, just for the hang of it. It would be such a waste seeing all those gold clubs and accessories go to waste, and I swear I saw a Callaway irons golf club in there. She might as well try the sport since she had everything she needed to play the game. She kinda enjoyed it at first but in the end, she admitted that golf really wasn’t her thing. Besides, with the summer heat like this, nobody wants to stay out under the sun for too long.

This is it!

Tomorrow is gonna be a big and busy day. Fist day of moving back. There are huge boxes behind me right now ready to be transported back to our house. It’s practically ready, it just needs a few vacuuming and wiping. We actually haven’t gotten a new set of furniture for the living room. Our current sofa is going to the patio outside, therefore, we need a new set inside. The thing is, all furniture sets available here all look the same, they’re overpriced and they don’t even look that good! I wish there were discount furniture shops around here like Boyles who sells really cool furniture at such an el cheapo price!

Moving back

In the next few days, I shall be stressed physically & mentally and will probably be sneezing a lot. We're moving back to our old house which means it's packing time again and moving all the dusty furniture, boxes and loads of black garbage bags. i actually find it more convenient to pack my stuff using garbage bags than boxes. They're easier to carry around and they take up less space.

As I've said before, I CANNOT wait for this week to be over. Better things are bound to happen next week. Can I just skip Holy Week and the whole moving thing?

Custom Made Magnetic Signs

Imagine having a great design concept for a sign board, magnetic signs or banner. Then imagine it coming to life in about 5 minutes. Impossbile? Nah. You probably haven’t heard about Build A Sign. They are an online shop that caters to custom made signs where clients get to be really creative with their designs and get them at a bargain price. What could be a better deal than getting exactly what you want, be assured of great quality and at a cheap price tag?

Letting Go of Whitee

I'm currently backing up my files in Whitee the black iPod. Whitee's soon gonna be in someone else's good hands. It's been almost two years and it's been great having Whitee around. But, this is life and everything has to move on. And now, it's time to move on...to a new iPod Touch! Yesyesyes! I wish Holy Week is over so I could get my new toy. Fast forward the days already!!!

Down With a Flu

We've been visiting our currently under construction home and right now, they're still painting some parts of the house. I went there with my mom a few days ago just when they were putting on the paint primers. And since the spaces are mostly enclosed, the fumes were congested in the area and it was brutally painful to the nose.

Mom had to wait for some people regarding house matters so we couldn't leave immediately. No matter where I went inside the house, the smell was just as bad. I think it could eventually suffocate people if the stayed there any longer. It gave me a very bad sore throat for a few days and now it has developed into some sort of cough and colds. Runny nose and painful throat. Such a perfect combination.

I wonder how those painters manage to paint the entire house without suffocating.

Drooling

I was surfing ebay a few days ago for nothing in particular. I had no intentions of purchasing anything. I was just looking around, trying to see if there's anything good in ebay right now. And unfortunately, I found the perfect pair for my black bag. A polka dot Gola black flats. And worst of all, it's my size! Why does it have to be in my size?!

The listing hasn't ended yet but it will in a few hours. Now I'm seriously contemplating whether to get it or not. If I get it, I'll be able to sleep peacefully well at night and be broke for the next few days. If I don't get it, I will be blaming myself for the next few weeks but will have spare cash for more important things.

To buy or not to buy.

Hope but Don't Expect

Things aren't going exactly as planned right now. It's not entirely bad, but it's just not how we expected it to be. To some, it might be very disappointing to be in this position, but fortunately, I never really expected THAT thing to happen so it wasn't so bad.

If I had expected THAT thing to happen, then I would've been really really depressed and disappointed. But I only hoped. And in hoping, you don't really expect things to happen, you wish for the best but you also know that the things you wish for might not really happen. When you hope, there's less chances of being disappointed, because when you hope, you also acknowledge the other side of things, which is the "not happening" part whereas if you expect, you believe that one and only one thing, that it will happen. And if it doesn't, that's what's really disappointing.

I'm not making sense but whatver, I'm just happy I never really expected.

Keep hoping.

How to Eat Fried Worms

A few days ago, Dr. L came home from Thailand and bought home fried worms for pasalubongs for the staff.

Hello wormies!

This went into my mouth and directly down my throat. No chewing whatsoever.

Leftovers. Obviously, hindi pinagagawan.

It actually just tastes like corniks, yung crunchy corn in small packs? Ganun lang. And the texture is more like chicharon, crunchy and made up mostly of air. Not bad. But the thought of having worms, crawling and squishy at one point in their life although not anymore, down your throat is not pleasant. But what the heck, stuff like these don't come everyday so it was worth the try. I'm not craving for it though. A few pieces are enough for me to tell the whole world that once in my life I ate freakin fried worms, thankyouverymuch.
